With Memorial Day next Monday I wanted to put together some of my top favorite dishes to serve up for a cookout, bbq or simple get together.
What are your plans? Do you go all out or are you more subdued? I’m thinking we will just kick back and relax since we’re always on the go however things may change depending on the weather. It’s been pretty jacked up here with either it monsooning for days, in the 80’s for a day or like this morning where it’s almost the end of May and the temp was 34F! Yes, FROST at the end of May! Who ever ticked off Mother Nature REALLY needs to buy her diamonds because I’m all kinds of tired of this weather!
The thing is, most American attribute Memorial day with a 3-day weekend, cookouts and bbqs however sadly that’s the furthest from the true meaning of it. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. Memorial Day should be a time of solemn reflection on some of the most sacred of human ideals: Faith, family, duty, commitment, heroism and honor. We are so profoundly indebted to all those soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen who have given their lives defending us.
It may seem like a small gesture, but it’s a way to, however briefly, keep faith with those heroes and maintain a tradition worth keeping.
