I don’t know about you but I’m so glad this past week is over. I am just beat with a capital “B”! With critical deadlines coming up at work that means all hands in. For me and hundreds of others, longer hours and another day in the office. I can’t complain too much as I’m fortunate enough to have a job and one that I do love. However, sigh, I’m tired.
Now by now you all know me I rarely take a break or rest. I’m on the go-go-go all the time. It’s not a bad thing. I sleep about 3-4 hours a night but honestly that’s the norm for me. I was one of those babies that never required a lot of sleep (sorry Mom & Dad for that!). I’d say every 4-6 months I take a day to myself and literally do nothing. And by nothing I mean no cooking, baking, no facebook, work, TKW… nuffin. I may sleep 5 hours (which is A LOT for me) and I wake up refreshed but lazy if you will. Like my body is physically tired. So after convincing Mr. Fantabulous that I’m not sick for the 8 bajillionth time I’ll literally lie in bed, in my princess jammies and read or watch cooking shows. He’ll often make me breakfast, which seriously is the best thing ever. Not because the food is amazing (sorry honey) but the fact that he made it for me is what so awesome. It’s kinda like when you have a pet and they seem to know when you’re sick or sad. They’ll come in, put their head on your lap and it just soothes you. Well him doing that soothes me. Here’s the kicker, he’d do it all the time if I let him. I’m just… I don’t know, I’m the one that takes care of stuff, not the other way around. I like doing that, knowing I can please someone or make them happy. Seeing that smile on their face in turn makes me happy. So he tries and asks all the time if I want him to make me something but I just smile (because he’s genuine in his asking) and tell him I’ll take care of it. Like I said.. I’m stubborn folks.
Let’s see, what else has been going on with us?
I FINALLY see a light at the end of the tunnel for our 7-year long remodel job. Almost all of the blueboard is up and the rooms are beginning to look like real rooms. It’s really exciting to see how far it’s progressed from when we first bought the house and it having that 1979 dated look to seeing it all in CAD (a computer modeling software that allows you to build rooms ‘n stuff – it’s all geek stuff and I love it) and now seeing those images on the screen turning into something real. For me that was the toughest part. As Mr. Fantabulous was drawing it all up in CAD he’d tell me it would look like this, the lights would go here, studio would have this type of ceiling, wiring and blah blah blah, it was tough for me to visualize. See I can’t, I guess, “see” conceptual stuff like that which is odd as I can see a plain apple and imagine it transforming into some amazing recipe. I can take those thoughts, write them down and make it a reality all from a simple apple. However with designs like the downstairs, nope.. couldn’t see it. All I saw were lines, numbers and A LOT of work ahead of us.
Now yes it’s been 7 years, not consecutive working as either due to injury or life it got delayed. Sure we could have asked our friends to help or paid someone to do it but he’s STUBBORN with a capital OMG-HE’s-ITALIAN-STUBBORN! A couple friends did help when we were tearing out the walls. They carried out 5,000 full sized brick from the downstairs. Yes, 5k brick in our house that were on the walls and that was just from one room! Yes, the downstairs is THAT big. Papa Fantabulous came up a few times to help him out as he’s a civil engineer as well and loves to do stuff like this. Plus I loved seeing him and my husband spending father-son time like that. Plus they are boys and boys like playing around with power tools!
So yeah, we’re almost done putting up the blueboard (we’re plastering). I’m praying we have it all done, sans the flooring, in time for our annual Halloween Party. Sadly last year we didn’t have one (our first time not having one) due to the remodel. Stuff was EVERYWHERE! Well technically stuff is still everywhere! I think that’s also partly why he’s pushing so hard to get it done – he wants the party (as do I). He wants his band to play plus a lot of our friends are in bands so it turns out to be one awesome jam session and party. We have karaoke, people can swim at the after party (which starts at 3am), and you know me.. there is more food than a grocery store. Plus it’s a time for us adults to dress up and act like kids. We’re fortunate enough that the house is big enough so people are able to stay here instead of making the trek home if they’ve had a drink or they are tired.
Today I had planned on having one of those ‘relaxation days’ as even Mr. Fantabulous said to me yesterday that I looked tired; that he could see it in my face. So after my TKW event yesterday (and working 8 hours in the office), we power shopped and came home. I had every intention of taking him up on that however his idea of my relaxing apparently was different than mine. I got “Hey honey, can you come down here and hold this?” about 472 times. Sadly no relaxation for me. I got to hold blueboard for hours, go up and down ladders, run up and down the steps 472 times, carry stuff from one room to the other side of the house, make lunch (lobster rolls…YUM!), 2 desserts, 3 photo shoots and type this up.
Thankfully he just asked if I wanted to go out for pizza at our favorite place.. which is *sigh* an hour away. Man I so hate living in the middle of no where… ugh! Looks like I’m off to shower and head in to the city for pizza. Maybe I’ll take a cat nap in the car on the way in as I’ve informed him that he’s driving tonight.
Oh well, I’ll rest in a few weeks… maybe. Till then, Best Kitchen Wishes!
