Happy Sunday TKW Family! Man it’s great to be back in the ‘Burgh arctic weather and all! What’s it been like in your part of the world? Both here and where I was the weather was downright nasty. It’s that cold that the air just hurts your face. Mother Nature is ticked off at the world and she’s taking it out on you… kinda like when your other half is mad at something and since you’re there they take it out on you, huh? Dear Jesus someone get Mother Nature some chocolate, some Midol and a Valium cause I cannot take much more of this weather! I mean seriously -17F BELOW ZERO and that’s before the windchill? WTH lady! Stop it!
Damn crusty old hag… knock it off! It’s funny as I’ve become one of those people. Remember when you were little and how all of those really old people (like 40 year old ancient folks) complained about taxes, price of milk and the weather? And how you used to make fun of them because they were so old and cranky and that you said you’d never turn out like them? Yeah.. HA.. you do in the end babe. How do I know? *Stands at the podium and says out loud* “I pay WAY TOO MUCH in taxes, milk should NOT be over $4 a gallon and cold weather sucks as it hurts my bones!”
Just wait, you’ll get there someday kids. So yeah this weather pretty much bites the big one however as I said, I’m home safe and sound in Mr. Fantabulous’ arms. I so hate being away from him. When you don’t have kids I think you develop a deeper bond with your spouse. Now I can only speak to this, perhaps those of you with kids will disagree but for me, the more we’re together the deeper that connection is. In a way we tend to compensate the parental roles in our actions. Meaning I spoil him rotten (surprise I know!) and in a way I mother him. He’s a grown man capable of fending for himself but my motherly instincts kick in – have food ready, leave instructions on how to make something, etc. He does the same in return. It’s something that it’s hard to put into words – it’s like we’re adults but we are kids together at times. While our bodies are aging our hearts remain young.
Now as I said this past week I was away for work. THANKFULLY I took the advice of coworkers and stayed at a different hotel than the one I did last time. That one last time.. oh dear God! Let’s just say when I opened the door to that room I almost threw up. It literally smelled like someone peed all over the place. No, not animal pee either! So this time I stayed elsewhere. SUPER comfy bed with REAL pillows (not those plastic covered ones), great tv selection and clean. Plus killer breakfast choices in the morning going beyond the bagel and muffin too!
The only bad thing was on my last night there some jagoff checked into the room above me and decided that he was solely responsible for cheering on every friggen basketball team known to mankind that was on tv. And that they could hear him so he cheered as loud as he could for them to hear him better. I mean we’re talking hootin’, hollerin, cussin’ like a sailor, banging crap and so forth. Well by 12:30/1am I had had enough so I called the front desk to ask them to rememdiate the issue. They went to his room and not more than 10 minutes later he was at it again only this time stomping on the floor. Now see while I don’t sleep a lot, I do sleep so when it’s interrupted by some jagaloon jerkface I’m not happy sooooooooooooo…. yeah, I called down again only said “Can you please go take care of this guy otherwise I will go up there and say something…” A few minutes later they were up there and ended up making him move rooms. Apparently I wasn’t the only one complaining about this a-hole. I don’t get that folks. Is there some rule that if you stay somewhere other than your own home you lose all sense of manners and etiquette?
Since I was away from my kitchen and stove I had to eat out. There was one place that stood out that I’d definitely check out again even though part of the meal was good. I can’t attest to the main course. I found this quaint little place and when I walked in, it was homey which is right up my alley. My waitress had to be the cutest thing ever and super sweet. I started off with homemade tomato basil soup which was actually pretty good. For my entree I ordered up a crimini grilled chicken with swiss, crispy onion straws (remember this!) and chipotle swiss cheese on a ciabiatta bun. It arrives and as I cut it in half I notice there are no crispy onion straws but rather a butt load of thick sliced sauteed onions buried under everything as if they were hiding it. Now I’ve grown to like sauteed onions but on this sandwich it didn’t go. So the waitress came back to check on me and I asked about the onion straws. She said they forgot to put them on and took the sandwich back. A minute later the hostess asked if I would like a knew sandwich or if I’d like them to remove the other onions. Since those were piled underneath everything else they would have had to pick through my sandwich which totally grossed me out so I asked for a new one. Well yeah… I got a a sandwich back. No, not a new one. The SAME ONE (remember I cut mine) that was now picked through with MORE sauteed onions on top. She sat it down and I gave the “Wha???” look. She immediately got defensive and said “We make our crispy onion straws from scratch, not prepackaged.” I said “That’s fine but those are sauteed onions. They are not thin, nor breaded nor fried. And further more you picked through my food when I asked for a new sandwich.” So she took it away with a huff. Again, perhaps she was having a bad night. She then brought me my check to which I said “Um, can I at least order dessert to go as I’m actually really hungry”. So why would I go back? The soup and dessert were pretty good and I’m ok with giving them another shot. However if they screw it up again… they are booted off my island. Would you give them another chance?
