Happy Sunday TKW Family! It’s time for another release of the weekly menu. This past week honestly seems like a blur to me. Like as I just finished up the graphic for this I kept thinking “what in the world went on last week that I can talk about???” and seriously I can only recall sparse things. Hmmm.. is my age showing or did I actually have a “regular week” like most folks?
So pardon this post if I seem to jump all over the place as I’m literally going to type what I recall though I may start on a Friday, jump to Tuesday, back to Saturday and so forth. Therefore in no particular order let’s dish… Thursday I went and saw the 3rd shoulder surgeon based on a co-worker’s recommendation. This guy impressed me immediately when he walked in the room and did his first action. He walked in, introduced himself, set and (and shut his laptop), looked me directly in the eye and reached out to shake my hand. Now that’s pretty standard with most doctors however it was the way he did it. He grabbed my hand but then put his free hand on top of our clasp as almost in a comforting way. That to me speaks volumes. It shows compassion and that he actually cares. Then he sat down, again laptop still closed and listened to me explain the pain, the other 2 doctors and that I needed this resolved.
After I was done speaking he then went on and did his official doctor stuff – poking, prodding, pulling and writing down. THEN… IT HAPPENED. *shudder* the man said “Lori, we need to test your pain threshold. I want to give you a shot of cortisone to see if your pain level subsides in the next 15-20 minutes. That’ll help me guage as well.” I explained that I couldn’t take that stuff due to being allergic to which he said “Okay we’ll just do a shot of Lidocaine. It’ll only last about an hour but the pain should go away. If it’s still there, then we can proceed with the next steps.” Now remember my telling you about the MRA I had a few weeks ago an how the lady used a harpoon instead of a needle? Well I think this doctor and her are siblings as he pulled out a harpoon!
I got the standard “This will pinch a bit” before he rammed it into me. Okay dude, I have a very high pain threshold but your interpretation of “pinch a bit” and my “dear God you just speared me with a dagger from hell” are IDENTICAL! But wait, there’s more (as she says in her infomercial voice), he then says “You know I think we should do another one in the back joint of the shoulder just to be sure we got the right spot. Sure let’s kick the horse while it’s down and barely breathing. LOL Long story short the shots did squat, in fact it pretty much paralyzed that shoulder for 2 days. The pain was unreal. After about 10 minutes in his office post harpooning and my having tears well up he said the ‘S’ word. Yep, surgery. I go this Friday to have a bunch of stuff done. There’s a rotator cuff tear, tear where the tendon meets the deltoid, removing some bone spurs, removing the end of my clavicle and a few other things. And get this.. it’s OUT PATIENT SURGERY. Okay wait.. you’re removing bone AND you’re not keeping me for like a week? Not that I want to stay in the hospital but bone… like you’re taking bone! But he’s the dr and he knows best (I hope). However he said that I should only be out a few weeks and that in under 3 months I’ll be back to my normal pre-injury workout which my arms will thank me for.
What else? Oh last night we had a double date night with the Fantabulous in-laws. God I am so very, very blessed to have them in my life. I hear horror stories from friends that hate theirs and I can’t imagine that scenario. We ended up going out for a late dinner and then back to their house for dessert and coffee/tea. To me that’s my most favorite times as literally we sit around the kitchen island telling stories, laughing til we cry (or have to run to go pee… again it’s the old age here) and carrying on like teenagers. It’s so endearing to see Dad Fantabulous and Mr. Fantabulous together as his Dad is such an amazing man and it’s like I get a glimpse into the future to see what Mr. Fantabulous will be like when he’s 80.
Other than that my week was pretty normal – work, workout, feed the man, grocery shop and as always visit HomeGoods. LOL You don’t understand how much I love that store. Anyway, I hear Mr. Fantabulous start to wake up and since today kicks off the celebration of his birthday month I’m off to the kitchen to make him Belgian waffles in bed. So here’s to you and I having one amazing week!
