Happy Sunday TKW Family! It’s time for another weekly menu here to provide with you some great suggestions for dinner this week. Since this upcoming Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day I felt it was only befitting to celebrate with some classic dishes. Since I’m not reaching for the green beer I went with one of my favorites which is Corned Beef. Now you all know my opinion on the taste of beer but there is something magical about it when you cook with it, especially Guinness. My Guinness Crock Pot Corned Beef & Cabbage with a Guinness Reduction Sauce went viral and is one of the top requested corned beef recipes on the ‘net.
Now you know me I can’t make just a little bit, enough for 2. I’ve tried and I just can’t so needless to say I’m already planning on leftovers. My Quintessential Perfect Reuben is my favorite. Where I differ from most is I loathe thousand island dressing. Sorry but mayo, ketchup and relish mixed together gags me with a spoon – yes I totally went Valley Girl on you. So while you’re free to slather that crap on this child goes for yellow mustard. Not dijon, not grainy but plain ol’ yellow mustard. What’s even funnier is that this sandwich must have swiss cheese and this is the only time I will eat swiss. If you put it on any other sandwich I will pick it off. I’m not a huge fan of it but with this sandwich it just makes sense. And lastly we can’t forget about my Guinness Sliders with Kerrygold cheese. LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that stuff!
So how was your week? Mine pretty much melded into one day after the other. Since I’m still recuperating from surgery I honestly didn’t do anything. I left the house once for my post-op visit which he said everything looks good though still no driving, no lifting, keep the arm in the sling and start PT. I’ll be honest with you folks. I’ve had some pretty major surgeries in my life and this shoulder surgery by far is the worst one pain-wise I’ve ever had. For me, the girl who bawks at taking Tylenol, I was truly thankful for the pain pills the surgeon gave me. Granted they didn’t really take the pain away at all, they did afford me the chance to sleep for 2 hours at a time. THANKFULLY I had Prilosec on hand as man those pain pills are killer on your stomach. WOW!
This surgery was really humbling for me in many ways. See I’m very, very independent. I’m the caretaker, the one that spoils, tends to, takes care of things however right now I can’t do much of anything for myself. I have to say this is the first time I actually swallowed my pride (or as Mr. Fantabulous would say – got my head out of my butt) and let him take care of me. This man waited on me hand and foot. I wanted for nothing. When I cried from the pain he sat there, wiped my tears and held my hand. He made sure I took my meds as prescribed. If I got up at 3am because it hurt so much he would get up out of a dead sleep to keep me company.
When I needed dressed he helped me however… Yes, there’s a however I will never have that man help me put my hair up in a ponytail ever again! See Mama Fantabulous was a hair dresser for years so I assumed (and we all know what happens when we assume things) that he had the basic gist of how to pull the hair back and wrap something around it to keep it in place. I mean he saw her do this for years. Yeah, I was wrong… so very, very wrong. I had gone to him with a scrungie in hand and my hair pretty much going in every direction possible at the same time. Like literally I looked like I licked a light socket – yeah, that sexy! I said “Baby, can you pull my hair up in this and wrap it around 3 times to make it tight? I can’t stand it in my face anymore.”
So he stands up, turns me around and for 5 minutes he’s pulling it this way, that way and I think catching every single baby hair on my head (that I now believe he’s pulled out!). He’s yanking, pulling and wrapping to the point I yelped “MY EYES! You’re pulling the skin from my eyes!” LOL After those very, very long 5 minutes he pats me on the bottom (like Cindy Lou-Who) and tells me I’m done. As I take a step it feels off. Something doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel like a normal pony tail. The position was odd.
THEN I SAW IT…
I stepped up to the bathroom mirror and stood there in disbelief. There I stood staring at the most rockin’ 80’s sideways pony tail ever created! But wait, there’s more! Only HALF of the hair on my head was in that sideways pony tail. The other half of my hair was somehow matted straight down almost like those chicks in the Addicted to Love Video. And what made it even worse is that Mr. Fantabulous was proud of his “creation” and actually wanted to take a pic and post it on facebook. A few choice words, a threat of divorce if he did and no more home cooking and he agreed that would be a bad idea. Now for those of you that are children of the 80’s – remember how Cyndi Lauper’s hair was all funky, pulled the one side while the other was kinda slicked back or down? Let’s just say I could have given her a run for her money with this hair style! I was one set of jelly bracelets, a fish net top and 2 cans of Rave hairspray of a full 80’s throwback!
Seriously even in pain that man can make me laugh. I lucked out with that one. Well okay his career as a hair stylist will never come to fruition however what I have with him is a complete one of a kind! Mama and Dad Fantabulous broke the mold when they created that child.
Another change you’ll see here in each post I’ll have an option for you all to Donate to help keep TKW up and running. I do this for the love of being in the kitchen however this is self-funded. If you wish to donate thank you. If not, it’s totally cool; really. You’re stuck with me regardless *wink*
Anyway, here’s to you and I having an amazing week!
