So wow, it’s the last week of 2015! What a year it has been for both Mr. Fantabulous and I. I could dwell on the bad stuff because lord knows we had enough of it but instead I’m going to focus on the positive. We’re still here, punching life in the face and enjoying every moment we’re graced by God. I’m blessed that I’m still able to run TKW and have seen it grow leaps and bounds. My hope for 2016 is to evolve it more and more and publish a cookbook albeit it a cookbook proper or even an e-Book. I’m not a writer, I suck at grammar (seriously, I’d be lost without spell check!), I have no clue how to publish a book but I have passion, mad skills in the kitchen, passion and drive.
This past week I spent a lot of time on our social sites seeing all of the wonderful holidays dishes you guys made as well as the gifts Santa got you. I cannot begin to say how happy I was to see so may of you getting pressure cookers and then immediately posting a picture sharing with it me, asking me ‘let’s make something!’ I told you guys. Pressure Cooking is making a HUGE comeback and I am THRILLED!
Growing up, this week, was always one of my most favorite weeks. I was off from school, the whole family was home and Mom was in full baking and cooking mode. Even though Christmas was over, the celebrations didn’t end. We were the house that everyone always came to. We rarely went out for the holidays. And no matter who you were, expected or not, you always left our house with a tray of cookies and fudge (though the fudge was a HUGE issue for my Dad. He hated to part with it!).
Mom would prep for New Year’s Eve dinner as well as New Year’s Day dinner. Yes, we’d eat at midnight and then at 2pm the next day with 2 completely different meals. 2 completely different FULL meals. No wonder we were fat! LOL But for me it wasn’t about food but just being with my Mom & Dad in the kitchen.
So did you partake in any of the after Christmas sales? I can remember only once going ‘day after Christmas shopping’ with my Mom and sister growing up. I must have been 12 and Mom wanted desperately to go to Pool City to get wrapping paper and those ceramic houses for her village. I think the doors opened at 8am so we got there at 6am. We stood in line, shopping cart in tow. Then…
yes, then… The doors opened and this lady came out from the back and shoved me out of the way to get through the doors first. I went flying and my mother, who was as docile and timid as they came swung her cart into the lady’s hip pinning her against the door and picked up her suitcase-sized purse and started to whack that lady with it. Folks saw what that lady did to me and picked me up, sobbing as I ended up getting hurt and all flipped out on her. But nothing like my dear sweet mother. She flipped out on this lady yelling at her and said words that even now I can’t repeat! LOL When the manager asked the lady why she shoved a kid all she could say was “I wanted wrapping paper.” Nice, huh? Needless to say the manager kicked her out and gave my Mom another % off of her order. I just got bruised but to see my Mom turn into a defending lioness was awesome. I knew my Mom was awesome but seeing that she went to Ninja Awesome! LOL
