Living a healthy lifestyle I incorporate Ocean Spray® Craisins® Dried Cranberries into my daily diet. They are that sweet treat without the guilt! I love them in my stuffing mixtures, in salads, cookies (fyi these in oatmeal cookies are PHENOMENAL!), cakes, added in pork dishes, sauces and…my mouth. LOL To me, these are nature’s most perfect treat.
Ocean Spray® Craisins® Dried Cranberries, to me, make dishes taste so much better and honestly make my choice of living a healthy lifestyle delicious and easy. Like take today’s recipe for example. I’m a ‘mix-it-together’ kid; always have been. I was that kid that didn’t necessarily mix everything together on a single plate but rather couldn’t take just a bite of one thing on the fork. If I had meatloaf I had to have mashed potatoes on the fork with it. If I ate a bologna sandwich, I had to have chips on the sandwich; never on the side. So when I partnered up with Ocean Spray® Craisins® Dried Cranberries I knew immediately what I wanted to make. I needed to share with the world my favorite wrap; my Crantastic Healthy Craisins® Dried Cranberries and Turkey Wrap!
You see this wrap I have been making for years. It’s one of my favorite go-to healthy recipes. And honestly the only thing I change is if I want to use an actual wrap or if I want to use a veggie wrap (i.e., lettuce or even shaved veggies). But it’s always roasted turkey, jicama (so love that stuff), carrot match sticks, spinach, cheese (because everything gets cheese in my world), a wee bit of ranch and of course a huge handful of Craisins® Dried Cranberries.
The wrap is hearty and filling but it’s not calorie-laden and I don’t have to feel guilty eating it. Did you know that 1/4 cup of Craisins® Dried Cranberries provides 1/2 cup of fruit? That’s awesome especially there are days when I don’t either have fresh fruit on hand or am so busy running around that I can’t hold an apple or orange while I’m doing 9 million things. All I need to do is grab a handful of these beauties and pop them in my mouth! Plus I love that ‘zing’ you get when you bite into them. It’s so unique and awesome!
So you all know me and how I have to research things and find out the how/why – I can’t help it; it’s the engineer in me. In looking up Ocean Spray® I found how so much interesting information. Their first product was jellied cranberry sauce, followed by original Ocean Spray® Cranberry Juice Cocktail hitting the shelves in the early 1930s. Wow! Talk about starting a long tradition of quality, innovation and success! Over 80 years ago this company was founded by 3 people and today, it’s harvested by Ocean Spray’s grower owners. What this means is this company, Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. is owned by over 700 cranberry and grapefruit growers in the United States, Canada, and Chile and are currently featured in over 1,000 great-tasting, good-for-you products in more than 100 countries! That’s incredible!
I think what I love the most about Craisins® Dried Cranberries is the versatility of them. I mean we all know they taste amazing but like I said earlier, you can use them in pretty much anything. I actually carry a container of them in my gym bag as a post-workout treat and keep a bag in my desk drawer at work. I never have to reach for chips or hit the vending machine. All I need to do to curb that 2 pm hunger is grab a handful of these little beauties, pop them in my mouth and I’m one happy camper til dinner.
Now back to this recipe, it all started after Thanksgiving. I had leftover turkey that I wanted to use in a sandwich. I didn’t have any bread so I grabbed a whole grain wrap. However when I went to grab the cranberry relish I found the empty jar in the fridge… who does this? Mr. Fantabulous that’s who! Grrr! So I improvised and used Craisins® Dried Cranberries. And since I wasn’t heating it up I added the carrots and some spinach. Okay seriously it was love at first bite! Throughout the years I tweaked this a bit more by adding the jicama as that mild sweetness balances out the zing of the cranberries and the carrots were added for that much-needed crunch. Since then it’s been pure cranberry bliss!
Oh also just a head’s up, if you’re like me you may have bought your Ocean Spray® Craisins® Dried Cranberries at Sam’s Club, they are currently unavailable there. HOWEVER you can still find them at many other retailers. I picked my 24 ounce bags up at Giant Eagle. Plus I do know Walmart has them on hand. So next time you’re at your local market make sure you grab a few bags of these – one for home, one for your office and one as a backup. 3 bags is the magic number here!
