Happy Sunday TKW Family and more importantly, Happy Father’s Day to all you amazing Dads! Today is always hard as, even though my Dad has been gone 26 years I still really miss him. I think about how my life would be different if he (and Mom) were still alive. Dad would be living with us. He and Mr. Fantabulous would be the best of friends – always tinkering in the garage, fixing something. I’d walk out to my kitchen early in the morning and there’d he sit with his cup of coffee, glasses pulled down on his nose reading the paper. He’d look up and give me that smile that would just melt your heart all the while his crystal blue eyes twinkling.
Dad would have loved the man I married as honestly they are so alike it’s scary. They always say a girl marries someone just like their father and I, for one, did. I see so many of my father’s traits in Mr. Fantabulous that at times I have to stop and take a second look. My Dad was a ‘fixer’. Whether it was a found lawnmower to my baby doll, Dad was ALWAYS fixing something. Even when something didn’t need fixed it still needed ‘modified’. This is Mr. Fantabulous to a tee!
While we were driving out to the home improvement stores yesterday he became obsessed with how bright my dashboard display was. Now I’ve had this car for about a year and couldn’t figure out how to turn down the display brightness. Oh sure I could have looked in the owner’s manual but those books are like a novel and often not clear so I just dealt with it. Well not him, he started pressing buttons (as he was driving) and then “AH HA!” he exclaimed! Apparently I have a trip button, knob thingy that, if you turn it adjust the brightness. I just laughed and said “Were you always like this?”
He said “Yeah, drove my Mom nuts!”. He then proceeded to tell me the story of how when he was 12 years old he got a digital alarm clock and how he loved it. However it was super bright. So he did what every person would do – put a cloth over it at night or turn it away from you as you slept…NOT! This 12 year old boy took his brand new alarm clock apart and simply “changed the resistors” to lower the brightness. WHO DOES THAT??? HOW does someone know to do this let alone a 12 year old kid??? At 12 I was into stickers, Tiger Beat magazine (hands up if you remember it!) and recording songs off the radio without the DJ cutting in. All he said was “I couldn’t help it. I was a very inquisitive kid.” Um… you’re still inquisitive babe…and I love you for it!
Confirmation Email
Oh, before I forget, a few of you emailed me to say you weren’t receiving my newsletter. I use a 2-factor authentication when it comes to subscribing to my newsletter. What this means is someone can’t put in your email address without your consent. You enter it and then you’ll receive an email (pretty much instantly) asking you to confirm that you want to subscribe to my website. You have to authorize that.
Also a couple of you said that this was going to your spam/junk folders. I’ve switched to a new mail sending service so that may be way. Be sure to add *@.thekitchenwhisperer domain to your approved email list this way it will go to your inbox.
Last week
If you followed along with me on Instagram and Facebook you saw that I was out in Kansas for 4 days on behalf of Red Star Yeast and Kansas Wheat promoting their #Wheat2Bread tour. I’ll be writing a full post on everything we did (hint I got to ride in a combine AND bake with Zoë Francois!). I met amazing wheat farmers, tour a flour mill, check out some of the world’s oldest ancient grains and a bunch of other food bloggers. It honestly was an AMAZING experience!
Here are few sneak peeks from last week
These ladies were (are) AMAZING!
You’ll just have to wait for the next post for all of the details but it was an amazing trip!
House Updates
We have a formal living room!!! All we have left to do in there is move out the one TV (we’re moving it to one of the bedrooms) and decorate the tree and we are DONE in there. Well okay, we might buy a painting to put up but we’ll see. The last thing we have to do is put a final coat of paint in the formal dining room and we are DONE DONE DONE painting! It’s funny as we said “We’ll only paint 2 bedrooms. Everything else is fine.” Yeah… no… we painted EVERY SINGLE FRIGGEN ROOM in this house! No wait, I take that back. We didn’t touch the powder room. I’m so sick of painting (and of remodeling to be honest). Now all that’s left is the new carpeting needs put down in the master bedroom and then just cleaning up the house/little decorative touches.
The outside – it just needs cut and the beds done. Since we can’t find someone to do it that doesn’t want us to pay their mortgage with the prices they wanted to charge, we’ll do it ourselves. Not looking forward to it as I’m so highly allergic to grass/weeds and that damn creeper vine. Not allergic to poison ivy but creeper vine is brutal for me.
Once all of the house stuff is done we’ll start interviewing realtors and THEN (hopefully) I can get back to normalcy and posting way more recipes (and creating videos!). I finally found someone to teach me (he said at most a day is all I’ll need) and then I can start making videos. YEAH!
