Happy Sunday TKW Family! Fall is officially here in the ‘Burgh. Yesterday was the first time of the season I pulled out my sweatpants and long-sleeved shirt. It was a crisp 58F degrees in the morning and it was perfect. I LOVE Fall! I love hoodie weather, apple and pumpkin season, all those warm spices in the air and just the feeling I get. I don’t know about you but Fall for me seems more ‘homey’. Fall = comfort and comfort type foods. I find I make more home style meals – more soups (cream-based perhaps), casseroles, baked goods, etc. It’s weird as I find I bake more this time of year than any other. But then I guess that’s kind of the norm for most as we’re now starting to think about the holidays and holidays = treats!
I had so many plans yesterday that included spending some time with an injured friend in the hospital, shopping downtown and making apple pie donuts but with the change of the seasons rather abruptly my allergies were going nuts and rendered me in bed most of the day nursing a horrible headache. Today, thankfully after an hour last night of having my head on Mr. Fantabulous’ lap while he ran his fingers through my hair to help with the pain I feel better. So today is all about catch up work and those donuts.
The past few desserts I’ve made for us has been pumpkin-based which honestly kind of surprised me by how much he loved them. His taste buds are changing as for years he hated pumpkin stuff but now he actually requested this pumpkin cake 2 weeks in a row. I’m working on those photos so I can share the recipe as it’s pretty amazing – Pumpkin, Cranberry and Candied Ginger. Seriously one of the best fall cakes I’ve ever had. Oh yeah – it has cream cheese buttercream layers too! I know, right?!
Bread Baking
As you all know I’ve been baking bread since I was 3 years old. I’ve been fortunate because of that early teachings to meet some amazing folks and clients. While on a trip earlier this summer I met Kristin from Baker Bettie. She’s not only super nice and has some great recipes but she has also developed an amazing online Bread Baking School! The course includes 13 detailed lessons covering all of the fundamental information about working with yeast, mixing methods, master recipes, shaping techniques, and baking techniques. It’s self-paced which means you can go as fast or slow as you want! Kristin is a trained chef and really knows her stuff when it comes to bread baking! She’s offering the TKW Family a discount on her baking course too. Use code: TKW20 for $20 off the course price. Using my special code this amazing 13 lesson course is only $39! That’s a HUGE STEAL! This is definitely worth it and also makes a great gift for someone! Be the baking guru for the holidays with this course using my code!!!
