Happy Sun… Monday TKW Family! OMGosh your girl here is BEAT! Like every part of my body hurts to the point putting on shorts and having to bend to put them over my feet hurts. Good lord. So…let’s chat about why my weekly menu is a day late.
As you may recall, we relocated to Arizona back in January. I drove through hail, hundreds of miles of pure darkness and zero cellular services, and a blizzard in Texas and New Mexico but I made it to gorgeous AZ.
Now we’ve been coming to AZ for about 14+ years before moving here so we kind of had a good idea of what to expect heat and weather-wise…or so we thought.
…and then all hell broke loose
Friday night we went to our neighbors to play some cards. Mr. Fantabulous had been going stir crazy since his surgery and needed for us to get out of the house for something other than PT. Well about an hour into it we get an alert that 1″ size hail was due to hit our area. I drove my car back to our garage and went back to my neighbor’s house. We then got the alerts that a Dust Storm and Rain were quickly approaching. Now calling it a dust storm is mild. They are technically called a Haboob. It’s an asthmatic and clean freak’s nightmare!
This thing was like something out of The Mummy movie only accompanied with lightning, monsoon rain, and 60+ mph winds that lasted for a good hour or so. Thankfully our house wasn’t damaged other than one tree that had a huge limp twisted in half and then split, about 1.5″ of sand and dirt EVERYWHERE and our pool trashed.
That beautiful blue pool water is now filled with branches, 2-3″ of sand, and muck. So Saturday morning I got up and went outside to start cleaning. It took me 45 minutes just to do sweep our vestibule out and almost 7 hours to sweep off our back patio. Yes, 7 – I have the blisters to prove it. We spent 5 hours getting the gunk out of the pool, taking apart the filters, cleaning them, and repeating.
and then it happened…
EMERGENCY ALERT!
“Go inside immediately. A Dust Storm with Monsoon rains and winds will be in your area within 10 minutes. If you’re driving, pull off the side of the road immediately.”
I literally burst into tears at that point. All that hard work, sweat (I kid you not, I lost 9 pounds on Saturday from all the work I did outside, and the blood – I was so cut up from branches and crap in the pool), all for nothing as Mother Nature decided to kick our butts while we were down.
So we went into the house and I was a hot mess. I was probably the most exhausted I have ever been in my life and physically drained. I just hurt all over.
Sunday I got up, well I tried too as the physical soreness was tough, and went outside to assess the situation. Thankfully the dust wasn’t too bad as I was able to use the backpack blower on the patio. The pool, however, yeah – hot mess. So we spent all day outside yesterday trying to get that vacuumed. Poor Mr. Fantabulous was beside himself as he’s still on crutches, can’t put any weight on his leg, and still in the long brace.
Even as injured as he was, he still sat in chairs around the pool and manually swept it for 5 hours.
So that, my dear family, is why I didn’t post yesterday.
TKW On YouTube
As I mention every Sunday, I have a YouTube channel. I’d LOVE and appreciate it if you subscribed there. I’m brand spanking new there and with the millions of TKW Family members out there, I really need to build up my subscription base there.
Not only am I creating videos for my newer recipes but I’m also going back and creating them for my most popular recipes.
Since I have 1000+ recipes posted, it’ll take me a little bit to get them all done but I’ll get there.
My goal is to do more longer-type 10-15 minute cooking videos where I talk to you while cooking – think TV show but candid.
Candid in the sense of – I scrape the whole bowl out (no, we don’t waste stuff in my house), I’ll get batter on my face, flour on my chest, and laugh at myself because I dropped/tripped/or just messed up what I was trying to say.
You’ll get me as me – true authentic Lori
Did you make a recipe? Leave a blog comment!
So why do I ask this? Two reasons:
- Honest feedback is appreciated. It helps me learn and grow.
- Most folks read the comments first before they decide on making a recipe or not.
We all visit blogs looking for delicious items and inspiration. What I find (and you should as well) the MOST USEFUL thing is the comments that people leave. Honest feedback, good or bad but respectful please, on a recipe.
You can give suggestions on what you’d tweak or a spin you put on it. Heck or just tell me that you loved it! Like how to make vegan, keto, or not use mushrooms.
This is how I grow and become better on here and it gives you guys real feedback. The absolute most critical thing you can do for me is to leave a comment on the blog recipe post.
When I look at someone else’s recipe I read the comments as to me, that’s honest feedback. So when you make a recipe of mine or plan on making it, leave a comment on the post. I, and everyone else that goes to my site, truly would appreciate it!
