Entertain sweetly with this scrumptiously simple yet elegant cookie grazing board for your next gathering.
We all love charcuterie and grazing boards. And if you grew up in Pittsburgh, you LOVED cookie tables!
Cookie Tables
In Pittsburgh, it’s a tradition that at every wedding reception you have your regular food and wedding cake and almost an equal amount of tables filled with hundreds of different types of cookies.
And if you’re really hardcore into these things, you also had actual take-out containers at the cookie table.
Create Your Own Cookie Boards
Today I’ve partnered up with John Boos Co kicking off a new #BYOBB series. In this Bring Your Own Boos Block series, I’ll be showcasing how to highlight their amazing boards in the most delicious way!
The Board
Today’s board is their CCB183-R-H Maple Wood End Grain Round Cutting Board with Stainless Steel Handles. It’s 18″ round and a whopping 3″ thick.
It’s STUNNINGLY beautiful and honestly a show-stopper! Weighing in at 21.5 pounds this thing is sturdy to hold even the biggest of foods (we’re talking pounds of meats, cheeses, or dozens upon dozens of cookies.
Whether you’re a chef, a home cook, someone that loves to entertain, or someone looking to get someone an amazing gift, this board is it!
Grab Your Ingredients
With boards like these, there really is no set recipe or actual instructions. The goal, I’m sure you all can agree with is to make it look visually appealing. For this cookie board, I went with stuff I had on hand plus grabbed a few things from the store
- Assorted cookies – I used about 9 or 10 different types of cookies and flavors.
- Dips – you can use ganache, whipped cream, and caramel. I went with 4 different types of buttercream frosting. And yes, you can totally use storebought stuff that you zhush up!
Let’s Assemble
- To a cleaned board, add your containers of dip on the board first. It’s easier to place the cookies around them.
- Next, place your larger cookies down first followed by your focal arrangement. In this case, I wanted a swirled snake line of Oreos.
Add More Cookies
Next, start to fill in the gaps around the buttercream frostings and the other cookies
Yes, We’re Adding Even More Cookies
Remember, the idea is a cookie grazing table. You want a variety here.
So we add more cookies
Almost Finished
As you can see you want the board to be full, inviting, and something that draws people back to it. All that’s left to do is add the little filler cookies.
I’m talking about the ‘fancy cookies’ you’ll find in cookie tins you get during the holidays. You can even make some yourself by taking a few of the cookies you already have and dunking them in chocolate and toppings.
How Many Cookies Per Person
I used to get asked this question all the time when I ran catering. Rule of thumb is if they are 3 or more bite cookies, you want to average 2 cookies per person. If they are bite-size, up to 2 bites then go with 3 cookies each.
Also, you want to consider if there are other desserts as well. The more dessert boards, the less you really need as most folks rarely will consume everything.
Themed Cookie Grazing Boards
With the holidays and football/hockey season upon us, go with themed versions here. Maybe some Halloween-shaped cookies to make it a Spooktacular board. Christmas cookies are always a hit, especially with cookie exchanges.
When I host cookie exchanges I always have folks drop off an extra dozen the day prior or that morning so I can assemble their contributions to the board.
